Dublin trio Bucket release their brand-new single, ‘DNB’, a breakbeat-driven noise-rock track that signals a sharper, heavier direction for the band. The single is the first taste of a new project due later this year and captures a group in mid-mutation, folding electronic rhythms into their already abrasive sound.
‘DNB’ was mixed and engineered by Dublin producer James Eager, known for his work with Lankum and The Scratch. The track took shape after the band visited Bristol and encountered a fresh wave of drum and bass, which prompted them to experiment with faster, more fractured rhythmic ideas. What began as two separate sketches eventually merged into a single track built on constant motion and tension.
Musically, the song shifts without warning, moving between jagged guitar figures and pulsing breakbeats. The arrangement is designed to resist comfort, with abrupt turns and an unsettled structure that mirrors its subject matter.
Vocalist Cian Dahdouh describes the lyrics as an exploration of social anxiety and exaggerated inner reactions. He said:
“Lyrically, the song deals with themes of social anxiety and mania. The narrator is having an internal meltdown as they consistently fail to understand other people’s humour. Not getting a joke is somewhat of a universal experience. I wanted to imagine the most manic or psychotic reaction an individual could have in that situation and make their thoughts sound extremely dramatic and somewhat poetic.”
The result is a track that treats everyday discomfort as high drama, giving the narrator’s thoughts an outsized and unstable voice.
Bucket are led by guitarist and vocalist Cian Dahdouh and bassist Emmet McNamee, who met while studying in college. The pair arrived from different corners of the underground, with Dahdouh rooted in garage punk and McNamee shaped by metal and hardcore. Formed in 2021, the band quickly gained a reputation for intense, sweat-soaked live shows and a DIY approach steeped in abrasion.
Early singles ‘Who Knows?’ and ‘Budgie’ pushed the group further into noise rock, hardcore and industrial textures, a path continued on their 2025 EP ‘Muck’. The addition of drummer Korey Thomas, also of Bricknasty, has shifted the trio towards a heavier, more rhythm-focused sound, placing percussion at the centre of their latest material.
With further releases planned across 2026, Bucket are positioning themselves as one of Ireland’s most uncompromising new acts. ‘DNB’ is out now, and the band will bring the track to stages across the UK and Europe this year.
