Dublin based band Buffalo Sunn are made up of members Patrick McHugh, Nathan Maher, Aidan O’Grady and Daniel and Conor Paxton, they originally burst onto the scene in 2013. Since then, they’ve toured the length and breadth of Ireland and America, mesmerising the masses on stage at a number of high profile events, including CMJ, Musexpo and the world famous SXSW festival.
Now they’ve returned to enthral audiences again with a brand new single named “Idle Man”.
Written and recorded at LA’s illustrious Sunset Sound Studios, the enchanting three minute tune trots off upon a cheerful riff that uplifts on the way to the sanguine serenade of the stanza. There’s a captivating country/rock vibe to the whole thing as it sails soothingly in the direction of a light yet enlivening chorus at the start of the second minute.
Another enticingly soft verse follows from here, arresting with its vibrant refrain while the music remains warm in the background. This paves the path to a peaceful vocal breakdown before a final friendly melody moves in to put an appropriately pleasant cap on the proceedings.
The result is a fantastically affecting fusion of folk, rock and country that really couldn’t rest any easier on the ears. Its incredibly calm character and altogether innocuous execution are guaranteed to go down well with a wide audience.
