Legendary alt-rock act Evanescence have just released a brand new single called “Wasted On You”.
Taken from the band’s upcoming album, The Bitter Truth, the new tune’s title and release date were announced along with the name of its parent compilation in a post published on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter on Friday April 17th that stated, “We promised you a new album in 2020 and we won’t let anything stop us. We are proud to begin sharing our new album ‘THE BITTER TRUTH’ with you, one piece at a time, starting with our first song “Wasted On You” next FRIDAY [April 24th]!”
The hugely and fantastically affecting four and a third minute alt-rock masterpiece is introduced by breathtakingly powerful vocals that induce chills as they ring out melodically across a sea of subtle but exceedingly stirring instrumentation. The music remains restrained yet magnificently moving underneath Amy’s enchantingly gorgeous singing until the one minute, twenty three second mark, at which point the instrumentation erupts thrillingly and proceeds to electrify alongside more mesmerizingly sublime and superbly sonorous vocal work during the tremendously invigorating first chorus.
Another delightfully gentle and extremely elegant stanza follows from here, showcasing even more incredibly dazzling singing and astonishingly ethereal music as it escorts the anthem towards an enormously impactful second chorus. This is succeeded by an exhibition of terrifically heartfelt and awesomely forceful vocals and exceptionally energising instrumentation which prefaces a spectacularly vigorous and goosebump-inducing climactic refrain.
This song – wow. Just WOW!
The period of time between Evanescence albums may not usually be short, but, in the past, the first singles from The Open Door, 2011’s self-titled Evanescence record and Synthesis – as well as the albums themselves – were all very much worth the wait, and the same is absolutely, totally, most definitely true of “Wasted On You”! I genuinely lack the words to even begin to adequately describe the effect that this song has had on me and how much I adore it. Its stunning synthesis (no pun intended!) of typically, utterly, jaw-droppingly and spellbindingly beautiful vocals, immensely touching and characteristically poetic lyrics, and incredibly rousing and impeccably executed instrumentation completely blew my mind, and I honestly cannot compliment Evanescence’s work here enough. Can we just have the whole album already please, because, damn it, I need it now!
“Wasted On You” is also available to stream on Spotify and download on iTunes now.
