Irish singer-songwriter Georgia G has released her latest single, Moving To New York, a track inspired by her decision to leave Dublin and begin a new chapter in the United States.
Originally from Malahide, Co Dublin, the 25-year-old artist is now based in New York City, where she is recording her debut EP while continuing to perform regularly. The new single was written on the eve of her move and reflects the emotions surrounding a major life change.
Speaking about the song, Georgia G said: “This song was written the night before I moved to New York, on my piano in my childhood home in Dublin. ‘Moving to New York’ is a nod to my impulsive side. I’ve always found it hard to face problems head on, so my instinct is usually to run, disappear, or make a drastic change instead.”
She added that while the song is rooted in her real-life move, it also explores broader themes of risk, self-discovery and leaving familiar surroundings behind in pursuit of new opportunities.
Produced by Ollie Deacon-Lowpines, whose previous credits include work with CMAT and Ailbhe Reddy, the track blends pop, indie rock and country influences. Georgia G cites artists such as Sheryl Crow, Fleetwood Mac and Adele among her musical inspirations.
The singer has built a growing profile in Ireland in recent years, earning multiple Track of the Week selections on RTÉ 2FM. She has also sold out headline performances at The Workman’s Cellar and Whelan’s in Dublin.
Her live schedule has expanded across both Ireland and the United States. In 2024, she performed on the Coca-Cola Stage at Electric Picnic and later supported Aaron Rowe at a Guinness Storehouse-linked event in Chicago.
Now based in New York, Georgia G is undertaking a year-long residency at a Broadway bar while working on her debut EP in Brooklyn. The project is expected to draw on her experiences of relocating to the city, exploring themes including ambition, heartbreak, nightlife and homesickness.
Moving To New York offers an early preview of that forthcoming release, capturing a moment of uncertainty and excitement as the singer-songwriter embarks on a new phase of her career.
