Almost three months after vocalist/guitarist Lzzy Hale announced it was on its way on her “Raise the Horns” online show on artist empowerment company We Are Hear’s “On The Air” Youtube channel, American hard rock aces Halestorm have unleashed a new version of their 2012 song “Break In” on which Lzzy shares vocal duties with Evanescence’s iconic frontwoman, Amy Lee.
As a huge fan of both Halestorm and Amy Lee, I was thrilled when it was revealed that Lzzy had recruited Amy to collaborate on a reworking of “Break In”, and the fruits of Halestorm and Amy’s labour are the very definition of superb.
The reworked composition begins by showcasing some characteristically superlative and spellbinding vocal work by Lzzy that reverberates warmly across a sea of exceedingly stirring instrumentation for about a minute and fifty-five seconds before Amy joins in, elevating the already stunning song to a whole new level of exquisiteness.
Lzzy and Amy’s voices gel incredibly well. The original version of “Break In” is an extremely moving and gorgeous composition, but the remarkably flawless fusion of Lzzy’s spectacularly powerful singing voice and Amy’s breathtakingly beautiful singing voice results in a rendition of The Strange Case Of album’s seventh track that’s affecting and elegant in a way that’s completely transcendent.
The two singers continue to harmonise impeccably for the three minutes that follow the start of their team-up while the music remains marvellously mellifluous and consistently touching as the whole thing glides gracefully in the direction of a dazzling climactic chorus.
This new edition of “Break In” brings together two extraordinarily gifted vocalists for a duet that’s every bit as jaw-droppingly sublime and impactful as one would expect a collaboration between Lzzy Hale and Amy Lee to be. I genuinely cannot emphasize enough how truly magnificent it is. Words don’t do it justice.
