Kneecap reach number one with ‘FENIAN’ video ahead of new album

Kneecap have climbed to the top of this week’s Pure M Music Video Chart, with the video for their new single ‘FENIAN’ reaching number one. The video, released on 1 April, rose steadily in the chart before taking the top spot.

Directed by Thomas James and produced by Art Class, the video was filmed across Dublin, Belfast and London. Production support came from Reblis Films in Dublin, with Lisa Turnbull-Daly serving as local producer. Cinematography was led by Piers McGrail, with additional work by Aidan Gault and Max Bamber. Post-production was completed by The Shop, with sound design by Underclass.

The chart success comes ahead of Kneecap’s second album, FENIAN, due for release on 1 May 2026. Produced by Dan Carey, the record sees the Belfast-Derry trio expand their sound, moving across styles including acid house, trip-hop and dubstep while maintaining their mix of rap and Irish-language lyrics.

Formed in 2017, Kneecap began as a DIY project built on simple hip-hop beats. Since then, they have grown into an internationally recognised act, known for combining music with political and cultural themes. Their recent work follows a run of high-profile moments, including their self-titled film, which received awards at BAFTA and Sundance, as well as major live performances at Coachella and Glastonbury.

The new album opens with ‘Éire go Deo’, followed by ‘Smugglers & Scholars’ and ‘Carnival’. Other tracks include ‘Palestine (feat. Fawzi)’, ‘Liars Tale’ and the title track ‘FENIAN’, which has already gained attention through its chart-topping video. Later songs such as ‘Big Bad Mo’, ‘Headcase’ and ‘An Ra’ continue the group’s focus on social commentary, while ‘Cold at the Top’ and ‘Occupied 6’ explore themes of fame and conflict. The album closes with ‘Irish Goodbye’.

Kneecap are set for a busy year of live shows following the release. After selling out two nights at Dublin’s 3Arena in late 2025, the group have already toured Japan and will headline a major outdoor show at Crystal Palace Park in London, alongside several festival appearances.

With ‘FENIAN’ now leading the Pure M chart and a new album on the way, Kneecap enter 2026 with growing momentum and a wider international profile.
