Leah Moran: Somebody’s Baby (Single Review)

Dublin-based singer songwriter Leah Moran returns has released  single ‘Somebody’s Baby’ July 14th 2023. It’s been a busy year for Dublin-based singer/songwriter Leah Moran. In addition to releasing new music, Leah has performed at The Three City Stages in Waterford and opened for Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova at Vicar Street June 13th, and also appeared at Electric Picnic.

Additionally, with over 100,000 streams across Apple Music and Spotify, Leah routinely finds herself on Spotify Editorial Playlists, and has also received major radio attention across Ireland, as well as being selected as one of the finalists for “Irish Music Months, A New Local Hero 2021”.

Over the past year, Leah has worked closely with producer Adam McNamara to craft a sound that is both unique and fitting to Leah’s deeply meaningful lyrics.

Her latest single, “Somebody’s Baby” is an observation of 21st century Ireland. Leah began her musical journey as a busker, where, as she explains, her day to day experiences gave her “more to write about than ever before. Just standing there for an hour you learn so much about people, you see our universal similarities play out in real life”.

“Somebody’s Baby” holds a light to these lived experiences. Leah said, “I wanted to write a song as a reminder to myself to treat everyone respectfully regardless of circumstances. Somewhere I rarely see this happen is on the street with homeless people. The idea for the song is that everyone you encounter deserves kindness and respect, and my hope would be that the character and story created in my song encourages that”.

The song itself is an extremely enthralling four minute folk/pop offering that’s brought to life by a beautiful blend of superbly expressive and magnificently melodic singing, tremendously touching lyrics, and soothingly harmonious and very affecting instrumentation, all which makes it highly likely to appeal to a vast and varied listenership.
