Marmozets: Cut Back (Single Review)

Late last year, following a few weeks of teasing the impending arrival of new music, adept British musicians Becca Macintyre, Jack Bottomley, Sam Macintyre and Josh Macintyre, aka absolutely stellar alt-rock quartet Marmozets, lit up the music scene by returning to it with their first new tune in more than half a decade, “A Kiss From A Mother” – a three and a half minute mind-blowing belter of a rock offering was most definitely worth the wait!

Fast forward to the present and following a couple of equally mind-blowing belters of rock offerings as well as an announcement that their highly-anticipated third album, CO.WAR.DICE., will arrive on May 22nd, the band have just dropped another exceptional single, this time called “Cut Back”.

Beginning with a barrage of brilliantly vigorous music, “Cut Back” quickly transitions into a thrilling introductory stanza stuffed with exceedingly stirring music and mesmerizingly melodious vocals before the spotlight shifts to a terrifically fast-paced and passionate chorus that exhibits superbly spirited singing atop extremely energising instrumentation.

Another barrage of brilliantly vigorous music follows from here, preceding a second thrilling stanza stuffed with exceedingly stirring music and mesmerizingly melodious vocals, which itself is succeeded by a second terrifically fast-paced and passionate chorus that exhibits superbly spirited singing atop extremely energising instrumentation.

This prefaces a splendid showcase of immensely invigorating music and vocals, which escorts the song excitingly in the direction of one last terrifically fast-paced and passionate chorus that exhibits superbly spirited singing atop extremely energising instrumentation.

The outcome is another characteristically delightfully zestful and mellifluous alt-rock creation from Marmozets that doesn’t contain even a mildly dull moment. Like the single that got that the journey to CO.WAR.DICE. started towards the end of 2025, boasting a brilliantly raucous combination of typically terrifically spirited and flawless vocal work and enormously energising and completely impeccable instrumental work, “Call Back” is an utterly superlative and impeccable composition from Marmozets that continues to demonstrate that their incredible talent hasn’t diminished even slightly during their time away from the limelight and very much suggests that the world is in for a real treat when its upcoming parent compilation drops on May 22nd.
