Snowgoose tease new album with captivating single “Descendant”

Glasgow folk-rock duo Snowgoose has released their latest single, “Descendant”, offering a glimpse into their highly anticipated third album of the same name, set to be released on 18th October in vinyl and digital formats. The band, consisting of guitarist Jim McCulloch (The Soup Dragons, BMX Bandits) and vocalist Anna Sheard, has made a notable impact in the Glasgow music scene since their debut in 2012.

The forthcoming album, Descendant, delves deeply into human emotions, blending McCulloch’s folk-rock guitar work with Sheard’s ethereal vocals. Recorded at Chem 19 Studios in Glasgow, the album captures the essence of their sound, raw, poignant, and timeless.

The new single, “Descendant”, is a poignant folk lament that addresses themes of grief, McCulloch explains the significance of layering meaning within a song, comparing it to a “musical Victoria Sponge cake,” with deeper truths woven into the melody. Jim McCulloch explains:

“Pop songs don’t need to be all shiny surfaces and veneer. Deep universal truths can be layered inside, like a wondrous musical Victoria Sponge cake. The end is the beginning, and the beginning is the end, essentially delivering the meaning of life in a mouth-watering slither of melody. And yes, I WAS hungry when I wrote this!”

Scottish author Ian Rankin, a long-time fan of Snowgoose, praised the album, calling it, “beautiful, timeless music to thaw the heart and melt the soul.”

To celebrate the album’s release, Snowgoose will embark on a UK tour in October, performing both full-band and intimate acoustic sets alongside special guest Eugene Kelly of The Vaselines.
