Consisting of vocalist/guitarist Karla Chubb, lead guitarist Colm O’Reilly, bassist Sam McCann and drummer Jack Callan, Dublin alt-rock ensemble Sprints have spent the past few months building up a fervent fan base in the Irish capital by showcasing their impressive musical talents on stages at some of the city’s most esteemed music venues, including Whelan’s, The Underground, The Sound House, The Workman’s Club and Fibber Magees.
Now the quartet are hoping to turn a plethora of new heads in their direction and further expand their group of loyal followers with the release of their latest single, “The Cheek”.
Described by the band as being “a sarcasm-laced song about those all too familiar dickheads you meet at a bar [who, after having their advances on someone rejected, harass that person for not being interested]” and “a raw and honest account of [their] real-life experiences”, the extremely invigorating three and three-quarter minute tune is introduced by an enlivening drum beat and bassline before the spotlight is stolen by some fantastically forceful singing at the start of the exhilarating first verse.
The ambience remains delightfully rousing as the instrumentation and vocals stomp energetically towards a terrifically rowdy chorus that’s crammed with captivatingly fiery singing and brilliantly boisterous music. This is succeeded by a superbly vociferous second stanza, during which the delivery of the instrumentation and vocals grows increasingly spirited, ensuring the song continues to excite until it culminates in an incredibly electrifying climactic chorus.
Sprints have spawned an exceedingly stirring and magnificently expressive alt-rock anthem here that’s absolutely jam-packed with passion and pep. Its mesmerising amalgam of terrifically vehement yet consistently melodic vocals and exceptionally thrilling instrumentation is sure to win over an immense audience.
