Earlier this year, iconic Canadian punk act announced that they would be hanging up their microphones and instruments after releasing one last album and embarking on a final string of shows in 2024. The band’s last record, which is titled Heaven :x: Hell, will drop to purchase and stream on March 29th, featuring an impressive total of twenty new tunes for fans to feast upon, including “Rise Up”, which has just been dropped as a pre-Christmas single.
The riveting three and a quarter minute offering begins with a burst of brilliantly energising instrumentation that instantly gives rise to a wonderfully rousing ambience as it sets the scene for an extremely stirring first verse full of fantastically vigorous and melodious vocals and exceedingly exhilarating guitar, bass and drum work, all of which leads the way thrillingly towards a terrifically passionate chorus crammed with captivatingly harmonious and splendidly zestful singing and delightfully animated and immensely invigorating music.
Another burst of brilliantly energising instrumentation follows from here, maintaining a wonderfully rousing ambience before the baton is passed to a second extremely stirring verse full of fantastically vigorous and melodious vocals and exceedingly exhilarating guitar, bass and drum work that escorts the song excitingly to another terrifically passionate chorus crammed with captivating harmonious and splendidly zestful singing and delightfully animated and immensely invigorating music. This is succeeded by a superbly lively display of superbly spirited vocals and incredibly electrifying instrumentation, the latter of which extends alone to the start of a touching singing exhibition, after which the whole thing culminates in one last terrifically passionate chorus crammed with captivating harmonious and splendidly zestful singing and delightfully animated and immensely invigorating music.
The outcome is a consistently magnificently vibrant and spellbindingly melodic punk rock belter by Sum 41 that’s sure to satisfy the band’s long-time fans and an enormous number of punk fans in general, as well as being a strong indicator that Sum 41 are going to go out at the top of their game.
