Limerick alt-trad band The Labourers have released their latest single, One Long Goodbye, marking a new musical direction for the rising Irish group.
The track sees the four-piece move beyond the upbeat folk-driven sound heard on earlier releases such as Maggie, Son and Bittersweet. One Long Goodbye features more complex arrangements, blending elements of Irish traditional music with rock influences and more reflective songwriting.
Made up of Conor Bogue, Michael Hickey, Dylan O’Shea and Euan Hickey, The Labourers have steadily built a following through their energetic live performances and distinctive mix of traditional and contemporary sounds.
The new single arrives after a busy period for the band, which included appearances at several major Irish festivals, including TradFest, Body & Soul, Electric Picnic and All Together Now. Their live shows have become known for driving banjo melodies and a high-energy stage presence.
The release of One Long Goodbye comes as the group prepares for a series of summer performances, including a UK tour. The band is also expected to return to the festival circuit in the coming months.
The Labourers have previously shared stages with a range of Irish acts, including Aslan, Dug, Highstool Prophets, Brogeal and Ispíní na hÉireann, helping to raise their profile on the live music scene.
With One Long Goodbye, the band appears to be expanding its sound while maintaining the traditional Irish influences that have been central to its music so far.
Fans of acts such as The Scratch, The Pogues, The Mary Wallopers and Madra Salach may recognise similar influences in the band’s blend of traditional Irish music and modern rock sounds.
The single is available now on streaming platforms.
