Wifeswap release debut EP ‘Digging’

Dublin-based alt-rock band Wifeswap have released their debut EP Digging, led by the track “Calliope”.

The band are the project of Offaly musician Joe Brody and feature Jasper Ryan, Cian Bates and Lorcan Connolly. They formed while studying in college and have since developed a presence in the Dublin live scene.

Digging was recorded with Michael Bell at Start Together Studio in Belfast. The group have previously supported acts including Yard, Nerves, Pete Doherty of The Libertines, and Been Stellar, and have appeared at venues such as Whelan’s, The Workman’s Club and Workman’s Cellar.

Wifeswap first performed live in 2022 with a sold-out debut show at Workman’s Cellar. Since then, they have played at festivals including Whelan’s Ones to Watch and a series of Dublin events curated within the city’s independent music scene.

“Calliope” is described by the band as a track focused on the act of writing and creative repetition. According to Joe Brody, the song reflects on distraction, routine and the pull towards artistic expression.

He also described the EP as built around recurring musical and lyrical patterns, with themes that gradually emerge across repeated listening. He said, “I think the key to understanding the EP is by digging in to its endless looping nature. I think either becoming numb to the words and the feelings on show or feeling it heavier with each repetition is the best encapsulation of grief in my mind.”

Musically, “Calliope” combines elements of indie rock and new wave, built around a steady rhythm and rising vocal delivery that builds towards a climactic finish.

Digging marks Wifeswap’s first full EP release and introduces their approach to songwriting, which blends art rock influences with literary themes and a focus on repetition and mood.
