Just days after dropping an enormously moving, grippingly harmonious and immensely powerful new single named “Right Time”, Irish sisters and multi-instrumentalists Méabh and Mella Carron and guitarist and violinist Darragh McGrath, aka stellar Dublin-based music-making/performing trio Carron, hit the stage at The Sound House on their hometown’s Eden Quay on the night of Friday March 3rd for their first show of 2023, during which they treated those present to an hour set of absolutely phenomenal live music.
Before the exceptionally talented trio stepped into the spotlight, fellow musician Liliana Pinheiro warmed the crowd up with an absolutely excellent performance that consisted of an assortment of her own enthralling songs as well as an impeccably performed cover, and massively impressed with both the amazing power of her voice and her top-notch guitar skills as she did so.
Following that fantastic supporting showcase, Méabh, Mella and Darragh appeared before the crowd and proceeded to absolutely own the stage and blow minds with the utter brilliance of their vocal, instrumental and performance skills as they marched melodiously through a totally terrific and consistently spellbinding set that included jaw-droppingly stunning renditions of all of their greatest and most well-known hits such as “She’s Fire”, “Even Sad Birds Sing”, “Roots”, “Lights Up”, “Numb”, and “Battle Lines”, as well as an enormously and splendidly stirring debut live exhibition of their aforementioned latest single, “Right Time”, among many other equally excellent Carron creations. And through it all, Méabh’s and Mella’s vocal performances were incredibly captivating, magnificently expressive, remarkably wide-ranging and altogether completely impeccable, while the two sisters’ and Darragh’s instrumental exhibitions were just as extremely entrancing, astonishingly adept and utterly irreproachable.
Truly, Carron are a very rare thing when it comes to musical performers – three indescribably superlative artists who don’t simply sound just as good live as they do on record – which in and of itself would be an exceedingly praiseworthy accomplishment – they somehow manage to sound even better live than they do on their recordings, and that is certainly no mean feat considering how extraordinarily sublime they sound, both vocally and instrumentally, on their recordings. And if that isn’t a sign of individuals who have genuine talent and were born to make music, then I don’t know what is.
I genuinely cannot emphasise enough how breathtakingly excellent, stupendously flawless and massively invigorating this utterly outstanding trio’s performance was in The Sound House on the evening of Friday March 3rd, and, as is my feeling about all of the music they’ve released to date, I really and truly cannot praise them enough for it.
If you haven’t had the pleasure of witnessing Carron perform live yourself yet, or even if you have, do yourself a favour and go to one of their future shows. I highly doubt you’ll regret it if you do.
And don’t forget, their brand new single, “Right Time”, is available to stream on Spotify and download now.
