Irish sisters and multi-instrumentalists Méabh and Mella Carron originally formed their eponymous band as a healing project during a period of extensive hospital treatment. In the years since, alongside guitarist, violinist and co-writer Darragh McGrath, the exceptionally skilled three-piece ensemble have established themselves as one of the most remarkable acts on their homeland’s music scene, having received extensive airplay on a variety of radio stations, played a plethora of sold-out shows at music venues across Ireland such as Dublin’s Grand Social, and released a whole host of excellent songs, records and music videos over the past decade, including “Heal”, So Far…, “Marble Arch”, Roots, “Battle Lines”, “Even Sad Birds Sing”, “Numb”, “She’s Fire (Richey McCourt Remix)”, “Even Sad Birds Sing (Kobina Remix)”, “Borrowed Life (Chris Ledwidge Remix)” and “Lights Up”.
And in that time, they’ve also most deservedly caught the attention of our very own Pure M Awards and spoken to us about their career.
Now, ahead of their latest headlining show scheduled for the evening of Friday March 3rd at Dublin’s Sound House venue, the extremely talented trio have just dropped a characteristically captivating new single called “Right Time”.
This enchanting new tune is an attempt to sooth and reassure during a period of turmoil caused by deep loss, and is part of the healing process, giving a voice to the struggle that follows a heartbreaking moment.
Speaking about the new song, Carron said, “This song is raw and honest in an attempt to heal the heart and soul. We use music as a powerful tool to help us cope and we write to help heal the wounds we have acquired. Producer Richey McCourt brought this song to life and it’s a bigger sound than our usual offerings, which it had to be to convey the trauma. Like ‘Lights Up’ it’s a nod towards our background performing in musicals as children.”
Written and performed by Méabh, Mella and Darragh, and produced, mixed and arranged by Richey McCourt, “Right Time” starts with an exceedingly stirring stanza consisting of beautifully sung vocals and enthrallingly soft instrumentation that leads the way affectingly towards a tremendously touching chorus containing terrifically heartfelt and impactful singing and entrancingly peaceful yet powerful music.
A second exceedingly stirring stanza follows from here and once again leads the way affectingly towards another tremendously touching chorus, after which the spotlight shifts to an exhibition of hauntingly atmospheric vocals and instrumentation that prefaces one last tremendously touching and superbly passionate chorus.
The end result is an enormously moving, grippingly harmonious and immensely powerful composition that showcases a stunningly sublime synthesis of completely flawless and magnificently melodious vocal work, hugely impactful and immensely deep and meaningful lyrics, and strikingly skilful and exquisite instrumentation, all of which pulls exceedingly hard on the heartstrings and, like all of Carron’s work to date, leaves a lasting impression.
