Blink-182: One More Time… (Album Review)

The past year has certainly been an exciting time for fans of pop punk icons Tom DeLonge, Mark Hoppus and Travis Barker, or, as they’re once again collectively known, legendary genre ensemble Blink-182.

Not only did the band announce the enthusiastically-welcomed return of founding member/guitarist/vocalist Tom to the line-up in late 2022, reveal that a new album is on the way and outline plans for a massive world tour in 2023, the much-loved trio also just dropped a delightfully attitude-infused tune titled “Edging” last October.

In a statement announcing all of the above on social media at the time, Blink said, delighting countless enthusiasts the world over in the process, “We’re coming. Tour’s coming. Album’s coming. Tom’s coming.”

Then, in the midst of their European tour last months and just weeks before the arrival of their highly-anticipated new album, the trio unveiled a single in the form of their forthcoming record’s riveting title track, “One More Time”.

That was followed by the unveiling of the equally riveting “Dance with Me” and “Fell in Love”, respectively, this month.

Now, One More Time… the album has finally dropped in its entirety, boasting 17 superb songs, the first four of which, “Anthem Part 3”, the aforementioned “Dance with Me” and “Fell in Love”, and “Terrified”, are all terrifically zestful and passionate pop punk pieces that are full of infectious vigour. Track number five, the album’s aforementioned eponymous tune, is a very affecting offering ahead of four more terrifically zestful and passionate pop punk piece titled “More than You Know”, “Turn this Off!”, “When We Were Young”, and “Edging”, respectively, the latter of which is of course the aforementioned top-notch lead single that got the hype train going on the railway that led to the release of this record. Next up, “You Don’t Know What You Got” is another very affecting offering before the spotlight shifts to a pair of delightfully energetic creations called “Blink Wave” and “Bad News, respectively, which precede an exceedingly moving interlude called “Hurt”. Another three terrifically zestful and passionate pop punk pieces going by the names of “Turpentine”, “Fuck Face” and “Other Side”, respectively, follow from here, escorting the record rousingly towards a tremendously moving finale in the form of “Childhood”.

Blink have brought the world a remarkably superlative compilation here that contains a consistently captivating collection of irresistibly riveting and marvellously peppy pop punk compositions that don’t contain a single dull moment between them, along with a few very touching rock ballads thrown in for good measure. Like the singles that preceded it, One More Time… as a whole is packed with spellbindingly harmonious and magnificently zestful singing and hugely exciting and exceptionally skilful instrumental work, representing Blink at their very best, and is guaranteed to please the band’s legions of devotees across the planet as well as being sure to enthral anyone who listens to it.
